Police arrested a 39-year-old Iranian on Monday evening in Larnaca following an assault allegedly carried out against a police officer. According to Philenews, the incident occurred shortly after 11 at night.
Police officers discovered the man lying in an open area of the city. He is a recognised political refugee who is homeless and has been found repeatedly sleeping on the street.
The police intervention was initially intended for the safety of the 39-year-old himself. However, upon noticing the presence of police officers, he is reported to have become enraged, started shouting and issuing threats, causing disturbance in the area.
Subsequently, according to police, he assaulted one of the police officers at the scene. The 39-year-old was arrested immediately and taken into custody.
