Onurzan Aktzan, a resident of the capital, was presented before the District Court of Nicosia on Tuesday, charged with the illegal practice of cupping therapy.
According to Cyprus Today, police officer Husseyn Ergkioules testified that Mr Aktzan admitted that he provided "cupping therapy". Authorities found 200 cups and 40 cupping pumps at his residence.
Cupping therapy is a form of alternative medicine in which local suction is created on the skin through the application of heated cups.
Mr Ergkioules stated that authorities established that patients visited Aktzan's flat and paid him for his services. Additionally, other medical instruments were found as well as "a large number of leeches" at the flat, which were handed over to the Veterinary Service for examination.
