A 23-year-old was arrested in Agia Napa after police officers discovered 20 cartridges containing nitrous oxide in his vehicle, along with balloons and an inhalation device.

In the early hours of Sunday, officers from the Mobile Immediate Action Unit stopped a vehicle for inspection as it was moving in Agia Napa. The driver, aged 23 years old, was found to be carrying in his vehicle twenty cartridges containing nitrous oxide — known as laughing gas — as well as eight balloons and an inhalation device.
This gas has legitimate uses in medicine and in the food industry. However, when inhaled for recreational purposes, it can cause serious health problems, including dizziness, fainting, asphyxiation, burns from the frozen gas, damage to the nervous system, and vitamin B12 deficiency in the case of regular use.
The young man was taken into custody as an investigation is underway to determine whether he possessed the substance unlawfully with the intention of supplying it to third parties. The Agia Napa Police Station is handling the case.
