This morning, a security system operating at Central Prison detected an unmanned aerial vehicle approaching the correctional facility whilst carrying a package. The attempt was immediately intercepted.
As reported by Politis, the specialised installation protecting the area detected the drone in time. The responsible services of the facility confiscated both the device and its contents.
Officers of the Republic were notified and collected the findings for further investigation. The objective is to locate the operator and determine what the package contained.
The Ministry of Justice emphasised that the incident demonstrates the usefulness of the particular equipment, which is considered essential for the protection of the detention facility. The primary aim is to prevent the entry of mobile phones, substances and other prohibited items.
