Second suspect arrested for theft of ancient sculptures from monument in Limassol
A 42-year-old man is in custody, as he is implicated in the case of the removal of historical objects from a commemorative site in Germasogeia. The alleged crime is understood to have taken place in mid-March.
On 21 March, an employee of the local authority informed the prosecuting authorities about the disappearance of valuable items. Specifically, bronze sculptures and inscriptions had been removed from a monument dedicated to local heroes.
Following information received, on 25 March a 35-year-old man was located who had in his possession part of the stolen items. The man in question was brought before court, and his case is pending.
During the course of investigations, evidence emerged that led to the arrest of the second individual. The 42-year-old was arrested in the afternoon of the previous day to assist with the investigation. Today he is expected to be brought before the District Court of Limassol.
The local investigation department continues to examine the case.
