Customs officials at Paphos airport prevented the departure of four passengers travelling to London, discovering large quantities of unstamped tobacco products in their luggage.

Customs officials at Paphos airport detected four passengers who were preparing to travel to London with luggage filled with unstamped tobacco products, according to reports from Politis.
The incident occurred on 4 July 2026. Officers from the Customs Department, acting on relevant information, identified two British nationals aged 25 and 24, as well as two individuals holding Danish passports aged 23 and 22. All four were due to board a flight destined for the United Kingdom.
Hundreds of cigarette cartons and kilograms of rolling tobacco were found in the travellers' luggage. Specifically, the first British national had 39 cartons of 200 cigarettes, 8 packs of 20 and 5 packages of rolling tobacco weighing 50 grammes. The second British national carried 45 cartons of 200 cigarettes and 60 packages of rolling tobacco weighing 50 grammes. The first Danish national had 64 cartons of 200 cigarettes and 55 packages of rolling tobacco in her possession, whilst the second had 53 cartons of cigarettes and 75 packages of rolling tobacco.
The products did not bear the required labelling regarding the dangers of smoking in Greek and Turkish, nor did they carry the unique traceability code, a fact indicating that the goods were unstamped merchandise.
The four arrested individuals were released after paying a total sum of €13,400 in out-of-court settlement. The confiscated tobacco products are to be destroyed in accordance with legislation.
