Four teenagers remanded in custody after Ayia Napa assault
Four 18-year-olds face charges of grievous bodily harm following an assault on a 47-year-old Turkish Cypriot in Ayia Napa. The suspects, believed to be in possession of Swedish passports, were remanded in custody for eight days.

A 47-year-old Turkish Cypriot remains intubated in a critical condition at Nicosia General Hospital following a violent assault in Ayia Napa, whilst four 18-year-old suspects have been remanded in custody for eight days.
The victim was found with serious injuries on a road in Ayia Napa on Sunday morning. He was initially transferred to Famagusta General Hospital and subsequently transported to Nicosia General Hospital due to the severity of his injuries.
Famagusta District Court ordered the remand on Monday. According to police, the four suspects were travelling on Swedish passports. Their reported countries of origin are Albania, Chile and Iraq. They were arrested and taken into custody in the early hours of Monday morning.
The charges they face include acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and causing grievous bodily harm. The Famagusta Crime Investigation Department is continuing its investigation.
Rumours on social media that the victim had died began circulating online, prompting Turkish Cypriot politician Toufan Erchurman to contact Duriye Deren Uygur, Turkish Cypriot co-chair of the Bicommunal Technical Committee on Health. Uygur spoke with officials at Nicosia General Hospital and confirmed that the man was still alive, although his condition remained serious. Erchurman called on the public to rely on information from official sources and not unverified reports online.
Political leaders in the north condemned the assault.
