Three young men, 18 years old, were arrested by authorities in connection with the beating of a 47-year-old Turkish Cypriot in the Ayia Napa area. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, when the man was found injured on a road in the area at approximately 6:00 a.m., following a relevant report.
The injured man was initially transferred to Famagusta hospital, where doctors established that he had suffered brain haemorrhage and a fracture at the base of his skull. Due to the critical nature of his condition, he was transferred intubated to Nicosia General Hospital. According to medical personnel, he remains in serious but stable condition.
Information emerging from the police investigation indicates that the victim was attacked by a group of persons who remain unknown. The police authorities focused on investigating the case and identifying those responsible. The three individuals arrested are being held to facilitate the investigation and are expected to be brought before the Famagusta District Court to have detention orders issued against them.
Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhiurman issued a written statement, noting that the services in the north were immediately informed of the incident. He clarified that they are maintaining contact with the injured person's relatives and with the competent services in both communities, monitoring closely both the progress of his health and the progress of the investigation. He also expressed wishes for the rapid recovery of the 47-year-old.
The Famagusta Investigation and Research Department continues to investigate the case.
