The Anti-Corruption Authority has launched yet another investigation into financial irregularities, this time against another former parliamentarian. The politician in question is accused of creating a non-profit body from which sums were illegally diverted.

The process is at an advanced stage, with testimonies being taken from individuals serving in Parliament and in state services, according to the newspaper Politis. The former MP involved is expected to be called to give evidence shortly.

The preliminary investigation has been undertaken by two individuals appointed by the Authority: former judge Sotiris Liasidis and lawyer Nicolas P. Konstantinou. The same pair of investigators had previously recommended criminal prosecution of Marinos Sizopoulou for related offences. Mr Liasidis is also a member of the team dealing with the "Mafia State" scandal, which is examining, among others, former MP George Varnava.

The Authority's actions form part of a broader effort to investigate former parliamentarians for cases of corruption.
