Officers from the Drug Enforcement Agency Ammochostos branch discovered one kilogramme of kief on agricultural land in the province. A 28-year-old foreign national and the 49-year-old property owner were taken into custody.

Officials from the Drug Enforcement Agency Ammochostos, with the assistance of the Antinarcotics Police, conducted a search on agricultural land in the free province of Ammochostos. The operation was carried out following the evaluation of information and in the presence of the 49-year-old property owner.
During the search, a 28-year-old man was found inside the premises who lacked lawful permission to remain in the Republic. Police arrested him flagrante delicto for illegal residence.
During the continuation of the search, a quantity of kief weighing one kilogramme was discovered inside a plastic toolbox. Kief is a fine crystalline powder derived from cannabis flowers. According to the authorities, this is the first time this particular substance has been found in such a large quantity in the country.
The property owner and the foreign national were taken into custody for the commission of flagrante delicto offences. They are expected to be brought before the District Court of Ammochostos in order for a detention warrant to be issued.
The Drug Enforcement Agency Ammochostos investigations are continuing.
In its own statement, the Police noted that during the recent period, new types of narcotics have been continually discovered on the island. Recent major seizures demonstrate, according to the statement, the determination and operational readiness of the personnel of the Drug Enforcement Agency in the fight against the illegal trafficking and use of prohibited substances.
