Investigators from the Crime Investigation Department in Larnaca are examining new evidence that has emerged from the inquiry into the disappearance of 22-year-old Shahruar Ahmed Emon, a student from Bangladesh, who went missing on 12 June.
According to a report from Politis, authorities are studying written messages sent to the father of the missing person, who is located outside Cyprus. The senders are reportedly demanding a sum of 35,000 euros in exchange for releasing the young man. One of the texts included threats of violent organ removal in the event that the money is not paid within a specified timeframe.
A spokesperson for the local police stated that the specific messages form part of the overall preliminary investigation. The digital files that were identified are being examined to establish their authenticity and their connection to the incident. Some of the material has circulated on the internet.
Emon had left his residence in Oroklini on the afternoon of 12 June heading to his first day of work at an industrial facility in Kophinou. Since then, he has given no sign of life. The last signal from his mobile phone was detected in the Kophinou area. Despite the authorities' efforts, the young man remains missing.
The search for the student, as well as the identification of any individuals who may have been involved in the case, is ongoing by the competent authorities.
