Murder case in Larnaca: 22-year-old arrested for abduction and homicide

Officers discovered the body of a man in an advanced state of decomposition in an open area of the Larnaca district during an investigation into an abduction. The victim bears wounds caused by a sharp object.

The investigation began following a missing person report for a 22-year-old from Bangladesh, Shahruar Ahmed Emon. His flatmate had reported to the authorities that the young man left their home in the afternoon of 11 June 2026, heading towards an industrial facility where he was to work.

Later that same evening, the missing man's father, who lives abroad, received a call from an unknown person. He was asked to pay money in order for his son to be released. At the same time, he received text messages with the same demand.

Based on information that emerged from the investigation into the disappearance, police proceeded on the morning of Sunday 21 June 2026 with the arrest of a 22-year-old, acting on a warrant in their possession.

During his interrogation, the young man is reported to have admitted that he participated in both the abduction and the killing of the victim. He also indicated to investigators the exact location in the countryside of Larnaca where he had hidden the body. A knife was also discovered there, which according to him was used to take the life of the abducted man.

The area was cordoned off for an official examination. A coroner attended the scene for inspection, whilst a team from the Criminal Investigation Service collected forensic evidence. The examinations showed that death resulted from blows with a sharp instrument. Personal belongings of the victim were found, whilst the findings reinforce the assessment that the body belongs to the 22-year-old foreign national who had been reported as missing.

The suspect was taken before the District Court of Larnaca, which ordered his remand in custody for eight days. The Larnaca Crime Detection Department is continuing the investigation.
