The hearing for the private criminal prosecution brought by the family of Thanasis Nicolaou was adjourned on Thursday until 9 September, without the substance of the case being examined.
The session began around midday, with the prosecution presenting a revised indictment before the court. During the hearing, the lawyer for the second defendant raised the matter of court costs relating to the case and requested that the prosecution take a position on this.
The defence also raised an objection to the revised indictment, arguing that it contains defects.
The court ordered both sides to submit their legal arguments in writing and adjourned the proceedings until 9 September, noting that once again the trial has not progressed to the substance of the case.
The five defendants are former state pathologist Panicos Stavrianos, former Limassol police director Andreas Iatropoulos, former head of the Limassol TAE Nicos Sofokleous, former head of the rural police unit Christakis Nathanael, and former constable of Platres police station Christakis Kapiliotis.
The private prosecution concerns the long-standing case of the death of reserve national guard member Thanasis Nicolaou, whose death in 2005 was initially characterised as suicide, before subsequent investigations established that he had drowned, leading to a fresh examination of the original police investigation and the pathological examination.
