According to Philenews, government spokesman Konstantinos Letympiotis announced on Wednesday the Cabinet's intention to appoint one or more independent criminal investigators to examine the findings of the Independent Anti-Corruption Authority regarding the "State-Mafia" report.
In statements at the Presidential Palace, Letympiotis stated that the decision is contingent on the full report first being forwarded by the Independent Anti-Corruption Authority to the Legal Service. The spokesman also noted that today's announcement from the Legal Service is being taken into account.
"Taking into account the need for comprehensive investigation of the matters referred to in the announcement of the Independent Anti-Corruption Authority within the prescribed legal and institutional framework, the Cabinet intends to appoint an independent or independent criminal investigators, with the aim of contributing to the investigative work," Letympiotis stated characteristically.
The spokesman emphasised that the Government is acting with full respect for the Constitution, the competences of each institution, and the independence of the judicial authorities, as well as the presumption of innocence. Every serious allegation in the report, he emphasised, must be fully investigated through the competent institutional procedures, without deviation from the rule of law.
The Government, according to the same source, remains determined to address the "state of corruption," with steadfast commitment to strengthening transparency, accountability and public confidence in institutions.
