Accusations of influencing hygiene authority: Balaštíková faces criminal prosecution
Detectives have accused former ANO movement MP Margita Balaštíková of suspicion of influencing inspections at the Zlín regional health authority, according to forum24.cz citing Czech Television.
Police are prosecuting three people in total in the case, who are suspected by Czech Television of abuse of power by a public official and misconduct in office. Balaštíková has repeatedly denied guilt.
The basis of the case comprises recordings which Seznam Zprávy published last summer. They were secretly recorded in 2023 in their shared home by the former husband of the MP, Josef Balaštík, following a series of mutual conflicts.
In one of the recordings, according to the server, Balaštíková plans to "pressure" the company ChemProgres, whose managing director is Josef Balaštík himself, whilst instructing the director of Zlín hygiene authority, Eva Sedláčková.
"Yes and besides, I told her that I am no longer holding a protective hand over that company, just simply, let them inspect it and everything, all the shortcomings there are, let them fine them until it…..," the voice of Balaštíková is heard on the secretly recorded tape.
Balaštíková described the recordings as forgeries. However, the ANO movement removed her from the candidate list for parliamentary elections following their publication. The MP herself announced at that time that she would suspend her membership in the movement.
