Metal traps near Jaroměřice nad Rokytnou damaged dozens of tyres

The police of the Czech Republic reports on its website policie.gov.cz about an unusual case from the Vysočina region: an unknown perpetrator placed metal objects on a field road near Jaroměřice nad Rokytnou that damaged the tyres of at least eighteen vehicles.

The field road runs from road III/02326 approximately 200 metres past the village and continues onto an asphalt road to Příložany. The perpetrator placed on it, at a time that has not been precisely determined, homemade metal plates with welded spikes, tubes, screws, nails and other iron objects, which he partially buried in the surface of the road.

The road was used by drivers with local knowledge as a shortcut, because nearby repairs were being carried out on road II/152 and the adjoining section was closed. An official alternative route has been established and properly signposted for this closure. Nevertheless, some drivers chose the field road, even though it does not meet the legal parameters for vehicle use.

Police officers from Hrotovice district station have been documenting the case since the end of last week. Upon arrival at the scene, they secured the plates and other trapped objects. The total amount of damage has not yet been calculated, as notifications from affected drivers continue to increase. The number of victims of the trapped objects may therefore be even higher than the current eighteen.

Police have initiated criminal proceedings on suspicion of the offence of damaging others' property and are searching for the unknown perpetrator.

Police also remind drivers that they cannot arbitrarily use any land, even if it would shorten the journey compared to the designated alternative route. Every parcel of land has an owner who can be traced in the land registry, and the field road in question is not part of any alternative route.
