A trial continues before a court in the western Czech region involving Dezider Čurej, who faces charges of manslaughter and destruction of property. The prosecutor in the case is seeking a ten-year prison sentence.
According to the indictment, the man intentionally set a fire in a residential building in Mariánské Lázně in 2023. During the subsequent fire, a fifty-eight-year-old man confined to a wheelchair died, as he was unable to escape from the burning building.
The accused categorically denies his involvement in the act. He claims he had nothing to do with the fire. The court is now examining the evidence presented by both sides.
The case attracts attention not only because of the tragic consequence in the form of the death of a person with a health disability, but also because the accused maintains his innocence.
