In the town of Kynšperk nad Ohří, near the German border, police are investigating a case in which a 35-year-old woman was arrested last week. According to information published by Philenews and other media outlets, the woman faces charges of particularly serious murder of her newborn child.
The incident was discovered by the suspect's mother-in-law, who found a hand and torso of a dead infant in a plastic bag in the garden of the house where they lived together. Police immediately deployed dozens of investigators and rescue workers who thoroughly searched the surrounding area and all rubbish containers on the street. However, they have so far been unable to locate the remaining remains of the body.
Investigators therefore focused on women from the area who had been pregnant and whose children had suddenly disappeared. On Friday, police arrested the 35-year-old mother. A police spokesman officially confirmed that the woman is charged with an extraordinarily serious crime of murder.
Particularly disturbing is the fact that no further traces of the child's body have been found. The website krimi-plzen reported that police are seriously considering the possibility that the woman gave the remains of the newborn to dogs to tear apart. This horrifying theory is considered the most likely explanation.
Neighbours of the family say that the woman's pregnancy was visibly apparent recently. However, the "belly suddenly disappeared" and no child ever appeared in the house. The motive for the act remains unknown for now. The local community is devastated and in shock. On Monday, several dozen residents visited the site of the tragedy, where they lit candles and laid flowers in memory of the deceased child.
