A couple from Brno appeared before the Regional Court in Brno over the tragic death of their several-week-old daughter. The woman and her partner face up to twelve years imprisonment for abuse that led to the child's death.
According to court documents highlighted by Novinky.cz, the tragedy occurred in February 2024. The mother left the maternity hospital only several hours after giving birth without securing subsequent medical care for the child. Over the following two weeks the girl suffered from dehydration and malnutrition.
The girl also developed inflammation of the lungs and heart. The parents nonetheless did not seek specialist help, despite it being evident that the child was ill. The child went hungry, suffered from thirst and severe pain caused by bedsores. The paramedics, whom they eventually called, were unable to save her life.
The proceedings are being held behind closed doors, with journalists not permitted in the courtroom. Following the interrogation of the accused and witnesses, the main hearing was adjourned to September and October.
