In Ostrava's Hrabůvka district, a gang of six boys attacked a fourteen-year-old schoolboy last October. One attacker is a juvenile, five others are below the age of criminal responsibility. Police charged only one perpetrator with extortion, disorderly conduct and robbery.

Last October, a brutal attack on a fourteen-year-old pupil took place in Ostrava's Hrabůvka district. A group of six boys ambushed him on the street near the Špalíček shopping centre in broad daylight. The victim ended up in hospital with a concussion.
The attackers, outnumbering the victim six to one, aggressively struck him with fists to the face, ribs and kicked him in the head and stomach. The entire incident was filmed on a mobile phone and subsequently posted on social media. The mother of the injured boy discovered the case on the internet.
The attacked boy did not attend school for two months following the assault. He underwent examination by a neurologist and attended a crisis centre. According to specialists, his reaction manifesting as fear of going outside was an appropriate response to the consequences of the attack.
Detectives initiated criminal proceedings against only one juvenile perpetrator. They charged him with extortion, disorderly conduct and robbery. He faces a prison sentence of up to five years. The remaining five attackers are under fifteen years old and therefore do not fall under criminal responsibility.
The victim's mother does not agree with this outcome. She demands that all the aggressors face consequences for their actions. The family turned to the media with an appeal to lower the age of criminal responsibility. According to her, it is unacceptable that similar acts by children are repeatedly left unpunished.
Police cooperate with the representatives of the juvenile attackers' families and with the child social and legal protection authority. A court can impose educational or protective measures on children under fifteen years of age.
