Five months after a fatal attack on a teenager in Castrop-Rauxel, the main suspect has been arrested. Specialists from the State Criminal Investigation Office (LKA) of North Rhine-Westphalia traced the 17-year-old schoolgirl to Lithuania and arrested her there.

The young woman is suspected of attacking and killing an acquaintance of the same age with a blade on 14 January. She initially claimed she had been defending herself against sexual harassment. However, criminal investigators were able to disprove this version.

IT specialists found incriminating chat histories on the suspect's seized mobile telephone. According to police, these suggest that the attack was intentional and treacherous, with no justifying grounds.

After investigators arrived at the family's home with an arrest warrant, the suspect went into hiding. Since the end of January, she was being sought publicly with wanted photographs. The relatives of the deceased Onur had offered a reward of 20,000 euros for information leading to her capture.

A witness who came forward after the reward was announced pointed investigators to the location in Lithuania. The victim's parents reacted to news of the arrest with great relief and now hope for clarification in court proceedings.

The arrest was carried out on Friday through a joint operation by the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) and Lithuanian law enforcement authorities. The suspect is currently in a Lithuanian prison on the basis of a European arrest warrant. If she agrees to transfer, she can be extradited to Germany shortly. Otherwise, a Lithuanian court must decide on the extradition.
