20-year-old stabbed to death in Leverkusen – major manhunt for fleeing perpetrator

Fatal stabbing in Leverkusen park – suspect still at large
As reported by DER SPIEGEL (Justice & Crime), a 20-year-old was fatally wounded with a blade on Thursday afternoon in a park in the Leverkusen district of Schlebusch. The alleged attacker, reportedly also a young man, fled the scene immediately after the incident.
A companion of the victim alerted police. According to statements from police and the Cologne public prosecutor's office, a dispute that initially remained verbal escalated into a physical assault. Rescue personnel resuscitated the seriously injured man at the scene and took him to a nearby clinic, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police deployed approximately 20 patrol cars. In the manhunt for the fleeing suspect, a police dog and a police helicopter were also used. Officers in protective clothing secured evidence at the scene. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. Cologne criminal police established a murder investigation task force. Investigations into the circumstances and background of the crime are ongoing.
