A 45-year-old Turkish national shot and killed six staff members at a youth hostel in Stade, Lower Saxony, on Monday. The man had previously escaped from a Turkish prison facility and is also accused of sexually abusing his daughter.

A 45-year-old Turkish national shot and killed six employees of a youth office at a facility for minors in Stade, Lower Saxony, last Monday. According to German newspaper BILD, the detained man is at the centre of several criminal proceedings in Turkey.
According to the report, the suspect had escaped from a Turkish prison facility. He already faced accusations of serious sexual offences in Kahramanmaraş dating from 2017. Additionally, he is accused of sexually abusing his daughter in Gaziantep in 2022. Between the two cases, the 45-year-old was imprisoned in another criminal proceeding, but was able to escape again and had been sought since. Turkish authorities had no knowledge of his whereabouts.
The prosecutor's office in Lower Saxony was unaware of the suspect's criminal record. In Germany, he was not known for violent acts, however complaints regarding aggressive behaviour as well as threats against doctors and police officers had been filed with the authorities.
On the day of the incident, the man had a scheduled appointment with youth office staff, at which the care of his eight-month-old daughter was to be discussed. It is claimed that he made serious threats against the staff members.
According to BILD, the man had been married three times in Turkey and had separated from the mother of the baby. He is now in pre-trial detention, whilst German authorities are working with the relevant Turkish authorities.
