A 54-year-old man caused a traffic accident in Berlin-Neukölln on Sunday and fled the scene. During his subsequent arrest, the apparently intoxicated man put up massive resistance against the officers deployed.
The incident began with a collision in which the 54-year-old damaged a car. Instead of remaining at the accident scene, he left. Shortly afterwards, he stopped in a car park and spoke to a passer-by. He admitted to this person that he had been drinking. By coincidence, the passer-by was a police officer, who then alerted his colleagues.
When the officers arrived, the man refused to follow their instructions. He shouted and made aggressive gestures towards the emergency personnel, though he did not injure anyone. The situation escalated to the point where police officers indicated they would use an electroshock weapon. Only this threat caused the 54-year-old to stop his resistance.
During the operation, one of the officers sustained a minor injury. He continued his shift nonetheless. Regarding possible charges or the exact blood alcohol concentration of the detainee, the authorities initially made no statement.
