As reported by Google News DE — Crime (de), a 32-year-old man is in custody pending investigation following a series of fires around Allendorf (Eder). Police became aware of the man on Sunday near the scene of the crime: they stopped him because he was travelling on a darkened e-scooter — and detected the smell of fire on him.
Following further investigation, a judge at Marburg District Court issued a remand order on Monday on grounds of risk of reoffending.
Specifically, the public prosecution service accuses the man of setting fire to two storage sheds over the past weekend in Allendorf. In addition, based on the current state of investigation, there is strong suspicion that he could be responsible for further fires in the region between 23 July and 23 August.
The fires caused considerable property damage in some cases. According to investigators, no persons were harmed. The investigation is ongoing.
