The Bremen Regional Court has sentenced a 29-year-old defendant to eleven years in prison for manslaughter. The man stabbed a 34-year-old with a blade in November of the previous year, who subsequently died.
The victim was the current life partner of the convicted man's former girlfriend. According to buten un binnen, a meeting between the two men took place in the Vahr on a car park. The situation escalated there, and the younger man inflicted multiple stab wounds on his rival. One wound struck the victim's lung, from which he died shortly afterwards.
In the proceedings, the prosecution called for a conviction for murder. The co-plaintiff also took the view that the perpetrator had been unable to accept the end of the relationship and had found the new boyfriend troubling. The defence, however, applied for a manslaughter charge – and the court followed this legal classification.
The judges established the charge of manslaughter as proven. The trial had previously been opened with the examination of a first witness.
