Federal police officer faces trial in Traunstein court for rape
A criminal trial against a federal police officer has begun in Traunstein in upper Bavaria. The 36-year-old is accused of sexually coercing a significantly younger colleague last year. The public prosecutor's office has charged him with rape.
The alleged assault occurred during an official event. The accused's unit had travelled to Ruhpolding for a winter sports competition. After attending the races, the officers met in a pub and consumed beer. Later, the group moved on to a party. Around three o'clock in the morning, they returned to their accommodation.
The affected woman shared lodgings with the defendant and another man. She went to sleep while the two colleagues were in the sanitary facilities. According to the prosecution, she was awakened in her sleep by bodily pain and noises. She noticed that the defendant was lying naked behind her and touching her sexually. She is said to have pushed him away several times.
The victim has suffered severe psychological trauma. She changed her workplace and complains of nocturnal restlessness and anxiety. Before the judge, she described the events behind closed doors.
The defence counsel for the defendant raised the point that the woman had already filed criminal charges against two other men from the same circle. Both cases were not pursued further. The defendant himself made no statement in court. Since the charges were filed, he has been on leave. Should the sentence be at least twelve months, he faces dismissal from public service along with loss of retirement benefits. The trial is scheduled to conclude in early July.
