Christina Block denies abduction allegations – tears during diary reading
On the 73rd day of trial, steakhouse heiress Christina Block continued her statement and rejected any involvement in the child abduction.
Block in court: "I did nothing at all"
On the 73rd day of proceedings in the abduction trial before the Hamburg Regional Court, steakhouse heiress Christina Block (53) continued her statement – and, according to BILD, read from her diary in tears. Block denies commissioning or even knowing about the abduction of her children on New Year's Eve 2023/24.
Block is accused of having commissioned an Israeli security firm to abduct her children Theo (12) and Klara (15) from Denmark. The siblings had lived with their father Stephan Hensel (52) since 2021. On New Year's Eve they were brought to Hamburg.
For months, Block had remained silent. On Tuesday she began her statement, but had to break it off early. On day 73 of the trial, she resumed her testimony.
The day became particularly emotional when Block read from a calendar notebook she had kept shortly after the abduction: "I am afraid to meet my children", "Back home", "I am uncertain", "First approach", "Oh God, how beautiful." When she read entries about her son's affection or her mother's death, tears ran down her face. In between, she appeared composed and continued speaking with a clear voice.
Regarding the background to the operation, she expressed herself as follows: "The situation was completely incomprehensible to me. There were masked people around there that I had never seen before." On the instructions of a man named Teerbaum, she had not taken her mobile phone. Her partner Gerhard Delling (67) had supported her without knowing what was happening – for this she was grateful to him.
She interpreted her hasty actions on New Year's Day – at 11.43 a.m. she spontaneously bought train tickets at the counter to Stuttgart for herself and her daughter Greta as well as a BahnCard 25 – as evidence that she was not prepared. "There was no time to think," Block said. "The situation was so surreal, I could have bought a ticket to Mars as well."
Regarding possible orchestrators, she expressed herself deliberately vaguely: "I do not accuse Mr Dr. C., I do not accuse my father either. I am merely saying that I do not know what happened." She had not seen her children for years – then they were suddenly there.
Her closing statement to the court was: "I would never have reckoned that criminal proceedings could take place, much less that I could be accused. I did nothing at all. What actually happened contradicts my understanding of a psychologically and policed-conducted return. I wish I could undo it and I would have wanted to prevent it. What happened makes the rift with my children even greater."
After the end of her statement, Block requested a break once more – the judge refused. When asked whether the lawyers had questions for Block, her defence counsel Dr. Ingo Bott declared that his client would not answer questions. The lawyers filed further motions, and there were no further statements that day.
