The Frankfurt am Main public prosecution office has brought charges against the alleged founder of the darknet marketplace "Archetyp Market". According to stern.de, the 31-year-old German is said to have operated the platform since 2020 – until its shutdown in 2025.
According to the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), drugs, cannabis products, new psychoactive substances and medicines were traded on the marketplace. Between November 2022 alone and the shutdown, approximately 2.3 million orders are said to have been placed, with total turnover of around 330 million euros.
Around 600,000 customer accounts had access to approximately 17,000 sales offers from around 3,000 professional sellers, the BKA stated. Cryptocurrency was the only payment method accepted.
Specifically, in the aforementioned period, approximately 3.2 million pills and 326 litres of various narcotics – including cocaine, fentanyl, heroin and crystal meth – are said to have been traded. Investigators speak of several hundred million euros in total turnover over the entire lifetime of the platform.
The defendant is said to have received a share of around five per cent from sales. According to the Frankfurt am Main public prosecution office, through the established escrow system and additional fees, he is alleged to have earned approximately 20 million euros.
In June 2025, the German was arrested at his residence in Barcelona by a special unit of the Spanish national police. Since then, he has been in custody awaiting trial in Germany. During the course of the investigation, authorities seized cryptocurrencies, cash and luxury vehicles with a total value of around ten million euros.
The defendant – with no prior convictions – is accused, among other things, of illegal trade in narcotics since 2020. If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison according to the statement. The panel of judges at the Frankfurt am Main regional court must now decide whether to open the main proceedings.
