Double murder in Bremen: police search for 22-year-old

The bodies of a 40-year-old man and his 35-year-old wife were discovered on Friday around midday in the Bremen district of Vegesack. German police and the Bremen public prosecutor's office have issued a public manhunt for 22-year-old Sami C., whom they consider the main suspect in the double murder.

Residents of a residential building heard screams at around 2 p.m. On the pavement they found a severely injured man with stab and slash wounds. Despite attempts to help him on site, the man died. Police discovered the body of his wife in the basement of the same building. At the time of the incident, the murdered couple's child was in the flat; police took the child to safety.

According to Večernji list, the suspect lived with his mother in the same house as the victims. Police had already intervened at this address in April after residents reported gunshots. At that time, officers wanted to speak with the 22-year-old, but he fled through a window and hid in the bushes. As police officers approached, he is said to have threatened them with a long pole that had a knife attached to it, whereupon the officers used a stun gun.

Following this incident, he was taken for psychiatric assessment but was released after that, according to available information. Investigators have not yet confirmed whether there is any connection between the April incident and the current murder investigation.

The suspect is approximately 180 centimetres tall and has short brown hair. Police warn citizens not to approach him or detain him alone, as they classify him as violent and dangerous. Anyone with information about his whereabouts should immediately contact the competent authorities.
