Double murder in Geretsried: 19-year-old grandson prime suspect
A 73-year-old woman and her 53-year-old son were found dead in a flat on Königsberger Weg in Geretsried. A 19-year-old grandson was arrested; a warrant for his arrest was issued on suspicion of manslaughter.
Two dead in Geretsried – arrest warrant issued for 19-year-old
A 19-year-old man is prime suspect in the deaths of his grandmother and father on Tuesday in Geretsried. According to the Süddeutsche Zeitung, police discovered the bodies of a 73-year-old pensioner and her 53-year-old son in a flat in a residential building on Königsberger Weg. A suspect was arrested on the same day.
The bodies bore, according to the Upper Bavaria South Police Headquarters, "clear signs of severe violent assault". Blood traces were also visible outside the flat. The operation was triggered by a report to the Integrated Control Centre on Tuesday midday, indicating an incident had occurred in the residential building. Geretsried police responded and found the two dead.
On Wednesday early afternoon, an examining judge issued an arrest warrant for the 19-year-old on the application of the Munich II State Prosecutor's Office on suspicion of manslaughter. Criminal police Weilheim took over the investigation under the direction of the Munich II State Prosecutor's Office. The investigators are receiving support from the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office and from forensic medicine; evidence collection at the crime scene was expected to continue through Thursday.
According to the authorities, the young man is severely injured and is receiving inpatient treatment. He is under police guard. The police headquarters press office initially made no comment on a possible motive for the crime – this, like the precise circumstances, is the subject of ongoing investigations. Investigations in a family setting were said to be fundamentally difficult.
On Wednesday morning, little was outwardly apparent of the violent crime in the residential neighbourhood characterised by residential buildings: a children's song drifted from a neighbour's window, a man came home with breakfast rolls. The day before, a large police deployment had thrown the neighbourhood into turmoil.
Although a suspect is in custody, criminal police are continuing to appeal for information from the public. Anyone who observed suspicious persons, vehicles or other notable occurrences in the area of Königsberger Weg or the immediate vicinity from the night of Monday, 31 August, into Tuesday, 1 September, through the midday hours is asked to contact the Weilheim Criminal Police Inspectorate on 0881/640-0. Any other police station will also accept reports.
