Before the Rostock Regional Court, an acquaintance of defendant Gina H. has testified about a nocturnal encounter that could be central to the murder trial. The man stated that the 30-year-old deliberately led him to a pond near Klein Upahl, where he later apparently discovered the mortal remains of eight-year-old Fabian from Güstrow, according to T-Online.
The witness had exchanged messages intensively with his neighbour Gina H. for four weeks. On 14 October of the previous year, he accompanied her on an alleged search operation for the missing boy. During this, he used a thermal imaging camera that the defendant had requested. Initially, the amateur hunter found nothing suspicious in the forest. Only when Gina H. directed him from a field path straight to the water body did he discover two dark shapes in the darkness, which he initially took to be pipes.
Only after multiple questioning by the defence did the witness admit that the objects might possibly have been arms or legs. He tapped them with his middle finger to check the consistency. A few metres away, Gina H. stood with her mobile phone torch and is said to have said: "There's something" or "There he is."
The witness felt instrumentalised according to his own testimony. He suspected before the court that the defendant had deliberately guided him to the discovery site in order to leave his traces at the crime scene. Shortly after the discovery, he broke off contact with Gina H. He admitted it had been a mistake not to go to the police immediately.
Investigators believe that Gina H. lured the boy from his mother's flat in Güstrow, drove him to Klein Upahl and stabbed him there. The body is believed to have been set alight by her afterwards. The prosecution suspects the motive was that she regarded the boy as an obstacle to a possible reconciliation with his father, from whom she had separated in August 2025.
Notably, according to witness testimony, Gina H. was unreachable for a certain period on the morning of the alleged day of the crime, 10 October. The prosecution suspects that the crime was committed during this timeframe.
