The two women met in December 2020 at a psychiatric clinic in Liebenburg, Lower Saxony. Miriam A., then 26 years old, was on ward 7a due to several mental health conditions, including an eating disorder. Josephine R., four years younger, also suffered from various mental health problems. The two shared a room, exchanged their deepest secrets, and according to their own accounts to police, became a couple on New Year's Eve 2020.
Years after the original accusations, Miriam A. now admitted that her statements to the investigative authorities had been completely fabricated. The false statements had serious consequences for those convicted, who lost their freedom based on the fabricated allegations.
