A 43-year-old who escaped from a psychiatric care facility in Stemwede has previously attacked officers with a firearm.

A 43-year-old man disappeared on Saturday from a closed facility in the Minden-Lübbecke district. Police are now asking for assistance in the search and are explicitly warning the public about the fugitive.
The man, who holds both German and Kazakhstani citizenship, was sentenced by a court in Hagen in 2021 for several offences. These included attempted manslaughter, drug trafficking and grievous bodily harm. The sentence was seven years and six months. After serving his sentence, he was admitted to a forensic clinic due to drug addiction.
Five years ago, the man had already attacked officers. During a traffic stop in Gevelsberg, he threw a container of urine in the face of a police officer. He then drew a pistol and fired. A 28-year-old officer was hit but survived because of his bulletproof vest. During the pursuit, the perpetrator caused a traffic accident. A special operations unit eventually located him in a courtyard, where he fired again. Officers returned fire and wounded him in the leg.
On the website of the North Rhine-Westphalian police, a warning notice appears in red: citizens should call the emergency number 110 and under no circumstances approach the wanted man, as he may be carrying a weapon.
The fugitive is approximately 1.66 metres tall and weighs around 85 kilogrammes. He has blond hair, short-cut, and blue eyes. Distinguishing features include scars on his right thigh and pronounced limping. He also bears tattoos on his right upper arm and on his back.
Investigators suspect he may be in the area around Gevelsberg and Hagen. Police are accepting tips under the telephone number 110.
