Frankfurt: 24-year-old on trial for fatal speeding accident
A young man must answer for a night-time accident in Frankfurt that killed two people and seriously injured a third. The prosecution has charged him with attempted murder.

The trial of Mohammad S. (24) began on Monday at the Frankfurt Regional Court. The young man is accused of killing two people and seriously injuring a third in an accident during the night of 6 July 2025.
According to the prosecution, the accused drove his parents' car through the city centre at around 2.30 a.m. Before this, he is said to have inhaled nitrous oxide with three acquaintances on the bank of the Main. On the cycle path of Mainzer Landstraße, he struck two 23-year-old brothers who were travelling on an electric scooter. The impact threw the twins approximately 30 metres. Both died at the scene of the accident.
The driver did not stop. Instead, according to the prosecution, he continued driving "at a constant, excessive speed". A short distance ahead, a friend of the brothers was riding another e-scooter. He was also hit by the car. The 27-year-old struck his head against the windscreen and was dragged approximately 70 metres. He survived but was seriously injured and lost a leg. Since then he has required ongoing care.
Video recordings show that the accused did not stop even after this. A scooter trapped under the car created sparks over a considerable distance. Only several hours later did the 24-year-old contact investigators. He has been in custody since mid-July.
The defence read out a statement at the beginning of proceedings in which it appealed for understanding for the accused. It claimed that he was "no longer in control of his senses" after the incident. The prosecution takes a different view: because the injured man was still on the bonnet whilst the car continued to move, the charge of attempted murder has been brought. A conviction could result in a life sentence. The accused has not yet commented on the charges.
