During a large-scale raid on Wednesday, police in Germany arrested eight people suspected of obtaining cash using forged data. Five of them remained in custody, whilst three were released.
The accused are believed to have withdrawn money from ATMs and at checkouts of retail companies using manipulated information. Investigators searched a total of ten apartments and a café in order to secure evidence and dismantle the alleged gang.
The exact amounts of damage and the extent of the fraud are not yet known. The investigation is ongoing.
