Leipzig – Violent clashes between football supporters broke out in Leipzig city centre ahead of the UEFA Conference League final. According to news agency MTI, a group of around 300 supporters of the Spanish club attacked fans of the English team, who were sitting in restaurants in the city centre. The attackers threw bottles, beer glasses and chairs at them.
In a further incident, police had to intervene when around 60 supporters of the English club provoked the Spanish fans.
According to authorities, two people were taken into custody. Two police officers sustained minor injuries.
The fifth final of the third European club competition takes place on Wednesday at 21:00 in Leipzig.
