Forged police report provides new clue to motive in Cakici murder case
A falsified seizure report could reveal the motive behind the 2017 disappearance of Rezan Cakici for the first time. The Oldenburg police searched an apartment in Lower Saxony.
Forgery revealed: Did ex-biker Cakici disappear due to embezzled drug shipment?
Nine years after the mysterious disappearance of Rezan Cakici, a forged police document could shed light on a possible murder motive for the first time. According to BILD, investigators discovered a falsified police seizure report during a search of an apartment in Oldenburg (Lower Saxony), which apparently served to conceal an allegedly embezzled drug shipment.
According to police, the search of the Oldenburg apartment was directly connected to the Cakici case. The authorities remain largely silent on what exactly officers were searching for and what they were able to seize, citing the ongoing investigation. What is clear: police continue to assume that Cakici was killed.
Oldenburg's police chief Thomas Weber stated: "Even though the crime took place a long time ago, we have never stopped searching for new investigative leads. Now we have managed to find what may be a decisive piece of the puzzle."
Whether the forged report and the allegedly missing shipment are actually connected to Cakici's disappearance is something investigators must now clarify. The central question is: did Rezan Cakici have to die because drugs were embezzled?
The last known day: 3 July 2017
Cakici was last seen on 3 July 2017. The then 29-year-old father of two was spending that evening in the shisha bar of his cousin in Oldenburg. Investigators later seized his wallet, a Porsche key and a weapon from that location. Cakici himself disappeared — his body has not been found to this day, and he is officially listed as missing.
The German-Kurd had ties to criminal circles and was a member of the Hells Angels in Bielefeld. In 2014 he is said to have been expelled from the "Nomads Turkey Bielefeld" club following an internal dispute and declared fair game within the scene. A direct connection between his biker past and the alleged murder has remained unclear until now.
Years-long search for the key lead
Over the years, investigators repeatedly tried to solve the mystery of his disappearance. A distinctive gold chain with a cross pendant that Cakici wore shortly before his disappearance — documented in footage from a bank branch on the same day — was sought. A black Mercedes said to have been seen behind the shisha bar on the evening of his disappearance came into focus at one point. Most recently, authorities were occupied with rumours of a mobile phone video that allegedly shows the murder or the moments immediately before it.
So far, none of these leads could be substantiated with compelling evidence. The forged police report is now considered the most concrete lead on a possible motive for the crime. Evidence and traces from the recent search are currently being evaluated.
