A major police operation is currently underway in Dortmund after a man shot at a police officer on Tuesday evening and subsequently barricaded himself in a flat with two small children as hostages. Local police are on high alert.
According to Bild, the suspected perpetrator had previously triggered a brawl in a club in the region, during which he threatened guests and sprayed several of them with pepper spray. He then fled in a car.
When police attempted to stop him, he fired a handgun from the window and slightly injured an officer. He then barricaded himself in a building and is holding two children hostage.
The police officer survived with minor injuries thanks to his bulletproof vest. Strong police forces are currently on site, including a negotiating team who are attempting to persuade the man to surrender.
