Federal Prosecutor charges alleged Nord Stream saboteur
The Federal Prosecutor's Office in Karlsruhe has formally charged someone for the first time over the explosions at the Nord Stream gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea. The defendant is a former military officer and intelligence operative from Ukraine named Serhij K.
According to information from Süddeutsche Zeitung, ARD and Zeit, proceedings against the man could begin as early as autumn. Investigators believe that he detonated the pipelines together with accomplices in September 2022. In wiretapped telephone conversations, he is said to have incriminated himself.
The explosions caused severe damage to the German-Russian gas pipelines and made headlines worldwide. Because of the outstanding significance of the case, the Federal Prosecutor's Office is leading the investigation.
