A 31-year-old has admitted at the start of proceedings at Frankfurt Regional Court to operating the world's largest darknet drug marketplace. The turnover is said to have amounted to 330 million euros.

At the opening of proceedings at Frankfurt Regional Court, the alleged operator of the darknet drug marketplace "Archetyp Market" has made a full admission. According to Kleine Zeitung, the 31-year-old stated that he had been the founder and operator of the platform. "That was a grave mistake and I deeply regret my actions," he said. Everything had begun as a small project and then taken a rapid course of development.
According to the indictment, "Archetyp Market" was the world's largest online trading platform for drugs and pharmaceuticals at the time of its shutdown in summer 2025. The platform was founded in November 2020. The defendant, a business administrator born in Minden, was arrested in June 2025 by a special unit of the Spanish national police in Barcelona. The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) confirmed at the time that searches had been carried out domestically and abroad, as well as further arrests. The server infrastructure was located in the Netherlands, according to the investigation.
Investigators estimate total turnover at around 330 million euros. The platform is said to have recorded more than 600,000 customer accounts from around the world and 2.3 million orders. According to investigators, goods traded included pills and tabs as well as drugs such as cocaine, heroin, crystal methamphetamine, fentanyl and crack — in addition to cannabis products, pharmaceuticals and performance-enhancing drugs. The 31-year-old is said to have operated the platform together with several moderators, generating around 20 million euros in revenue for himself.
According to the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office, payment was conducted using the cryptocurrency Monero. In his statement, the defendant described the process: customers registered, loaded funds into a wallet, selected goods and provided a delivery address — orders were then accepted and dispatched by sellers. He had chosen the username "ASNT" — an abbreviation for "Apfelsaft naturtrüb" (naturally cloudy apple juice) — because he had been drinking it at the time. He had first consumed illegal drugs at the age of 17, but had not sold any on the darknet himself.
Shortly before his arrest, plans to shut down the platform had matured, according to his lawyers. He described the silence towards family and friends as an unexpected burden. The arrest itself had given him a sense of relief and peace. Under the Narcotics Act, gang-related illicit drug trafficking in non-trivial quantities carries a sentence of five to 15 years' imprisonment. An admission typically results in a reduced sentence. The verdict is expected in October.
