Major raid on DFB over alleged corruption in Euro ticket distribution
The headquarters of the German Football Association was searched by a large police unit early on Wednesday. More than 150 officers were involved in the operation.
According to media reports, the action was triggered by allegations of unlawful distribution of accommodation and tickets for the European Championship 2024 held in the country. It is believed to involve several thousand tickets and hotel reservations that were passed on internally to selected individuals.
The justice authority in Frankfurt am Main is investigating on suspicion of organised acceptance of benefits. Investigators suspect that the association gave preferential treatment to certain contacts and received counter-benefits in return.
The football association is already in a difficult phase following its disappointing performance at the World Cup in Qatar. The current allegations could further burden the association and impair preparations for the upcoming continental tournament.
