The Frankfurt public prosecutor's office has filed criminal charges against a 53-year-old qualified nursing staff member. The woman is accused of removing monitoring devices from three patients in a vegetative state at a facility in Main-Taunus district during her night shift to avoid being disturbed by alarm signals.
The removed devices measure blood oxygen levels and heart rate. According to investigators, the accused committed a total of four criminal offences between mid and late February 2025. She is accused of accepting at least the death of the defenceless patients. According to investigators, it must have been clear to her that the health condition of those affected could deteriorate acutely to a life-threatening level.
One patient had to be taken to a hospital as a result of the alleged action. Others were in a precarious condition. Since January, the woman has been in custody. The Frankfurt Regional Court must now decide whether to open main proceedings.
