German and Polish investigators seized more than 1.2 tonnes of cannabis with a street value of €12 million at Hamburg port. Eight suspects were arrested, including two drug dealers from Diepholz district in Lower Saxony.

At Hamburg port, investigators seized more than 1.2 tonnes of cannabis with a street value of approximately €12 million. Eight suspects were arrested in the process, as customs, the public prosecutor's office and police announced on Thursday.
Six of the alleged dealers are currently in pre-trial detention. Two suspects are from Diepholz district in Lower Saxony. The officers believe that both individuals had taken on logistical tasks.
A German-Polish group is suspected of smuggling drugs by sea from Thailand to Europe. The goods are believed to have reached Hamburg hidden in containers with building materials.
In May, investigators discovered a suspicious container. They secretly seized approximately 400 kilogrammes of cannabis and continued to monitor the shipment. During delivery in the Polish city of Szczecin near the German border, officers arrested four suspects at a warehouse, including a German national.
However, the group continued the smuggling operation, as reported. In the same month, authorities in Hamburg seized another container with approximately 800 kilogrammes of cannabis. This time the container returned to Poland without the illegal cargo – to Poznań. There, officers arrested four further alleged members of the group.
