The accused stated that he had not intended to injure anyone. According to his own account, he only wanted to deter cyclists and send a warning signal. The authorities, however, see it differently and accuse him of having risked serious injury or even death to cyclists through his actions.
The case illustrates the dangers of vigilantism in rural areas. Rather than informing the relevant authorities about the illegal cycle path, the hunter opted for his own potentially lethal solution. The courts will now have to examine whether the intent was actually only to deter or was already directed at causing serious bodily harm or death.
