Corruption suspicions in Euro 2024 ticket allocation: raids on DFB and municipal authorities
As part of investigations into possible corruption in the allocation of tickets for the 2024 football European Championship, the Frankfurt am Main public prosecutor's office conducted nationwide searches on Wednesday. The headquarters of the German Football Association (DFB) in Frankfurt was also affected. This is reported by BILD.
The investigations are directed against a former high-ranking DFB official as well as a former employee of the world football association FIFA. Both are accused of having received benefits in the form of tickets to the opening match in the run-up to the home Euro. These tickets are said to have been passed on to third parties.
In addition to the DFB headquarters, several municipal authorities throughout Germany were also searched. The raids extended to Gelsenkirchen, among other places, where BILD reported on location. Documents and data carriers were secured there.
The public prosecutor's office is investigating suspicions that irregularities occurred in the allocation of VIP tickets for the opening match against Scotland. The investigations are ongoing.
