A 43-year-old man is currently answering charges before Munich Regional Court after allegedly killing a fellow inmate in a correctional facility. The defendant faces a life sentence. However, he appeared composed at the start of the trial.

The reason for his composure: Alban H. is already serving a life sentence for a previous crime. A further conviction cannot legally worsen his situation. The sentence remains the same.

The victim was also a serious criminal. The dead inmate was regarded as a neo-Nazi and had himself murdered someone. He also already faced a life sentence. The incident occurred in the high-security prison Straubing.

Investigators are basing their case on, among other things, recordings from surveillance cameras in the prison as well as statements from other inmates. During a urine test, the defendant allegedly made a confession that is being used as evidence.
