Google News CH — Crime (de) reports on a fatal knife attack at the Docemus private school in Gosen-Neu Zittau, approximately 35 kilometres south-east of Berlin. At around 13:45, police, emergency services and fire brigade arrived at the scene.
Brandenburg police confirmed the ongoing operation on X and shortly afterwards reported the provisional arrest of a man. "Following an act of violence, a male person was provisionally arrested who, according to current information, is connected to the incident. We are currently securing the scene," the authority stated in its message.
In the evening, Brandenburg police confirmed the deaths of two people and the arrest of a 19-year-old German. Based on initial findings, investigators are treating this as a relationship-based incident — not a rampage, as an initially triggered alarm had suggested.
Victims and suspect
According to the "Märkische Allgemeine", citing informed sources, the two victims are an 18-year-old secondary school pupil and a 30-year-old man. The man reportedly attempted to prevent the act and was struck in the chest area. The newspaper identifies him as Philipp P., a childcare worker from Berlin and goalkeeper for Friedrichshagen Sports Club 1912.
The suspect is said to have been the ex-boyfriend of the 18-year-old. According to the "Tagesspiegel", he stabbed the young woman with a knife-like object. The 19-year-old was already known to police for a case involving incitement to hatred.
School operations suspended on Friday
School manager Michael Kunz expressed shock and sympathy to the "Märkische Allgemeine". Regular classes would not take place on Friday, Kunz said. However, the school would remain open for all pupils who wished to visit the location.
Investigations are ongoing.
