A 20-year-old was fatally injured by a stabbing weapon in a green space in the Leverkusen district of Schlebusch on Tuesday afternoon. As DER SPIEGEL (Justice & Crime) reports, police and the Cologne public prosecutor's office stated that the suspected perpetrator, who was also apparently young, fled after the attack.
A companion of the victim alerted emergency services. According to investigators, an initial verbal argument escalated into a physical assault. Emergency responders attempted to resuscitate the severely injured man on the scene and transported him to a nearby clinic – where he succumbed to his injuries.
According to police, approximately 20 patrol cars were deployed. A police dog and a police helicopter were also used in the manhunt for the fugitive. Officers in protective clothing secured evidence at the scene. The attack occurred at around 5 p.m. Cologne criminal police established a homicide task force; investigations into the sequence of events and circumstances are ongoing.
