Local police arrested two suspects, including the alleged perpetrator. A police spokesperson confirmed that no further suspects remain at large and that there is no further danger to the public.
The incident occurred on Dankersstraße in a building that houses both a youth care centre and accommodation for mothers with children. It remained initially unclear whether minors were among the victims.
An eyewitness told the online portal Focus Online that a woman together with a young man had attempted to flee the scene in a car. A police officer called out: "Stop, stay where you are." As the vehicle continued, several officers opened fire. The witness estimated that ten to fifteen shots were fired.
The exact circumstances of the act remained initially entirely unclear. The role of the second arrested person was not clarified in detail by investigators. City councillor Carsten Brokelmann expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and thanked the police for their efforts.
